Description Ever-growing quantities of bromide, the strumigenous effects of which cannot be excluded due to its chemical similarity to iodide, are introduced into the alimentary chain. In experiments on rats we have found that the [I]/[Br] concentration ratio in their thyroid rapidly drops with increasing bromide intake. The magnitude of this drop, however, depends also on the iodine supply. In animals with sufficient iodine intake, the [I]/[Br] ratio is as much as five times higher than that in animals with iodine deficiency.
