| Description | The portals and facades of pilgrimage temples played a key role in the experience of pilgrimage: it was the first iconic experience that the pilgrim had when approaching the temple. Christ in the apse could thus become a vision for the weary pilgrim, but also an advertisement for entering the church in the first place. |
