Description This contribution examines the influence of immigration policy on the South Moravian Region and city of Brno. Immigration policy is considered a set of interests of various parties, such as employers, citizens and political parties, non-profit organizations, or universities. Employers' interests were examined through questionnaires and complemented by data from an employment survey in the South Moravian Region. Citizens' attitudes towards immigration have been identified from opinion polls and electoral results – it is expected that support for antiimmigrant political parties will increase with the deterioration of immigration attitudes. Various organizations that were established by the South Moravian region, play a key role in managed immigration. All findings regarding different parties were supported by qualitative interviews with immigrants. A key benefit for the South Moravian Region is the gain of a significant number of talented and highly qualified foreigners. The main problem is not immigration policy itself but its poor implementation by institutions that are in direct contact with foreigners. Although the South Moravian Region is officially trying to attract and retain foreign experts and talented students and scientists, these immigrants often face many obstacles in their professional and personal life. This disagreement in planning and real acting poses a non-negligible risk to the region, and it can affect its development and competitiveness.
