| Description | Although comics were not received very kindly by literary critics in the first half of the 20th century in the domestic environment, they nevertheless became a significant part of literature for young people. A fundamental role was played by the so-called club comics, which had their iconic source in Jaroslav Foglar's Rychlý šípy (script) and Jan Fischer's Rychlý šípy (drawings). Their influence on a significant part of the Czechoslovak youth can be perceived not only as normative in relation to the aesthetics of everyday life and how to live one's life well and be a good citizen, but also more generally to what a comic book actually is, what its formal features are and how it communicates with the reader. This is evidenced by several decades filled with clones and continuations of the ethical education of youth that stretches to the present day. Club comics also represent a specifically Czech response to the global spread of comics, closely linked to political and social developments. |
