Description SUMMARY The quality of life and prognosis of patients with hemophilia have seen unprecedented advance in recent years. New medications are constantly coming to the market, which enable hemophiliacs to prevent bleedings as part of the prophylactic application of factor VIII/IX concentrates and simultaneously prevent the occurrence or further development of hemophilic arthropathy. New medications in hemophilia treatment allow patients to live a full life, which is especially noticeable in younger hemophiliacs. In elderly patients with hemophilia, new treatment options, especially in the form of tertiary prophylaxis or treatment with emicizumab, can help to prevent further progression of joint damage and thereby delay demanding orthopedic procedures. Current trends in treatment of hemophilia include treatment with registered concentrates with extended half-life (EHL), treatment individualization using pharmacokinetics and treatment with bispecific antibody emicizumab, which is intended for patients with severe hemophilia A with inhibitor and for patients with severe hemophilia A without inhibitor. Key words: hemophilia, bleeding episodes, hemophilia arthropathy, inhibitor, recombinant concentrates, quality of life, trough level, EHL, extended half-life products, emicizumab Romanova. Extended half-life products and other hemophilia treatment options. Farmakoter Revue 2022;7(5):490–496.
