Description The first volume of the textbook Medical Biology covers basic knowledge of cellular and molecular biology. This textbook aims to help medical students learn, understand, and review this extensive field of medical sciences. The first chapter defines medical biology, summarizes the field's history, and refer to its significance for modern medicine. The following chapters are dedicated to the fundamental chemistry of life, the structure of the biopolymers, proteins and their functions. Another part of the textbook focuses on the functional anatomy of the eukaryotic cell, structure and functioning of the biomembranes, cellular organelles and their functions, membrane and cytoskeletal system of the cell. Introduction to molecular biology includes chapters on the genome structure and organization, DNA replication, DNA repair, transcription, translation and genetic code, gene expression regulation, and cellular communication. The last part of the textbook is dedicated to the cell cycle, cell division, cell death, and the cell in the tissue context. The textbook is also complemented by clinical notes and molecular case studies relevant to concrete chapters to help students practice basic knowledge of the field.
