Description The chapter Theorist and Tutor, deals with Bělský’s translations and textbooks. Bělský was the first to translate four renowned 18h century musical treatises into Czech: J. J. Quantz’s On Playing the Flute; An Essay on the True Art of Playing Keyboard Instruments by C. P. E. Bach; A Treatise on the Fundamental Principles of Violin Playing by Leopold Mozart; and George Muffat’s Premieres observations del' auteur sur la maniere de jouër les airs de Balets a la Françoise selon la méthode de feu Monsieur de Lully (First Notes on Playing French Ballets according to the Method of the late Mr. de Lully). These translations were intended primarily for performing musicians, and filed the information vacuum that existed in the study of performance practice of early music in the 1990s. A similarly useful publication is Bělský’s textbook Baroque Music, which briefly examines a number of questions about music between 1600 and 1750. Bělský also summed up his experience as an organist and harpsichordist in his books On the Organ and the Harpsichord: the Instrument and Further Readings.
