Description The presented methodology aims to create a comprehensive overview of the invasive fluke Fascioloides magna and, above all, the established diagnostic procedures used to confirm the presence of this parasite in its definitive hosts. The methodology also includes a new standardized procedure for detecting this fluke, specifically its nucleic acid (DNA), directly from the feces of specific definitive hosts. In addition to feces, DNA of different origins can be used for analysis, for example, from infected tissues of the host or intermediate host, from different developmental stages of the fluke, or from the environment. The advantage of the described procedure is its ability to specifically detect except F. magna and other gastrointestinal pathogens in one rapid reaction. Based on the procedures presented in this methodology, its user should obtain a suitable comprehensive tool to understand the entire problem associated with the F. magna fluke and to detect infected pieces of ruminant animals moving freely in hunting grounds or kept in fields and farms. Based on the diagnostic data obtained using the methodology, its user will be able to assess the effectiveness of previously taken measures or set other appropriate preventive measures or therapeutic interventions, the aim of which will be to reduce the occurrence of this invasive parasite to an ecologically and economically acceptable level.
