| Description | From June 26 to July 14, 2023, the archaeological research at the Sutny site in Těšetice-Kyjovice continued for the 59th research season. The research was led by experts from the Institute of Archaeology and Museology of Masaryk University and the French National Center for Scientific Research in Paris. The aim of the research was to better understand life in the Neolithic. The archaeologists continued researching a long house of the Linear Pottery culture (5300-5000 BC), whose remains are part of an extensive settlement consisting of at least 78 houses spread over an area of 13.5 ha. The house had a rectangular ground plan and its interior space was divided by groups of three postholes. The walls of the house were made up of densely arranged posts coated with clay, which was obtained from longitudinal construction pits along the long walls of the house. Finds of pottery, animal bones and fragments of querns suggest that the main source of livelihood was the cultivation of cereals and the keeping of domestic animals. Finds of stone axes and antler wedges indicate the felling of trees and woodworking, while bone awls suggest basketry or textile production. A unique find is an almost complete clay figurine of a ram. The research of long houses is part of a broader research project focusing on comparing the social and economic maturity of Neolithic households. The research will continue next year. |
