Description Saliva can serve as an interesting source of various biomarkers due to its non-invasive and simple sampling. Since salivary IgA and lysozyme have been shown to be parameters that change in response to stress stimuli of various origins (e.g. physical or psychological stress) (Chojnowska et al., 2021), they can help identify individuals at risk of increased stress levels. The aim of the work was to determine how selected immunological parameters (IgA and lysozyme concentrations) in saliva change depending on the athlete's physical stress. The measured results confirmed that during high physical stress, which accompanies elite sports, the mucosal immunity of athletes decreases, who are subsequently susceptible to various infectious diseases (so-called open window).
