Description | This publication is an accompanying book to the exhibition A Thousand Faces of Amazonia (May 2024-December 2025), where the results of the international EPSULA project were presented in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture. The project aims to map selected indigenous languages and cultures in Latin America that are threatened with extinction. One of the important cultural complexes targeted is the Amazon, which is characterized not only by its extraordinary biodiversity and ecological importance, but also by its unique cultural richness. Not only is the Amazon an exceptional place with a remarkable variety of flora and fauna not found elsewhere, but it is also home to many indigenous peoples and ethnic groups. The book is structured into twelve thematic chapters that focus on daily life, traditions, cosmology, as well as contemporary issues facing Amazonian communities. Topics range from environmental degradation and deforestation to the disappearance of language, cultural identity, and the loss of indigenous knowledge. |
