| Description | Tephroseris aurantiaca is a critically endangered plant species in the Czech Republic which, according to our knowledge, occurs at its last site in Bohemia. This paper revises the history of its occurrence in Moravia and opinions on its origin, which is referred to as doubtful or unclear in major reference works. We present evidence for the native origin of populations in the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands near Třebíč and in the Zábřežská vrchovina Highlands near Cakov. Both have not been confirmed for almost a century and have most likely vanished. Nevertheless, acknowledging them contributes to our knowledge of the past distribution and ecology of this remarkable taxon with a yet unresolved taxonomy and a great responsibility of Central Europe for its worldwide conservation. We also hope that our analysis confirms that a critical review of available information may contribute to a better understanding of the origin of our flora. |
