| Description | In October 2022, the Department of Philosophy and History of Philosophy at the Faculty of Arts, Comenius University in Bratislava celebrated 100 years since its foundation. One of the historical chapters of its history is connected with the work of Josef Tvrdý (1877-1942), who worked in the Department from 1927-1938. I will recall his work in Bratislava in several episodes connected with his unmistakable academic activity in Slovakia. First, I will mention the circumstances that brought Tvrdý to Bratislava. Then I will mention his academic activities during his eleven years at the Comenius University. I will present Tvrdý’s reflections on his activities in Slovakia and give examples from the contemporary press (Slovák), which depicts the politically turbulent period of autumn 1938, which resulted in the departure of Tvrdý and other Czech professors from Bratislava. |
