Description Article presents the results of a non-destructive archaeological survey of the Tri Kopce hill near Stebnická Huta. The survey provided valuable information about the construction of Russian trenches, which were documented by archaeology in the Carpathians for the first time, and about military operations in this area during the First World War. Thanks to a combination of methods, including LiDAR data and detector survey, it was possible to reconstruct the course of the trench lines and analyze the material culture found at the site. A comparison with the Austro-Hungarian defensive positions on the opposite ridge with the Staviska elevation shows significant differences between the Russian and Austro-Hungarian defensive positions, with the Russian trenches being structurally simpler and morphologically less distinctive. The survey also revealed evidence of intense artillery fire and the presence of Russian infantry ammunition. This can probably be linked to the well-known events of the “capture of the 28th Regiment” and the subsequent presence of Russian troops on this Carpathian ridge. The negligible amount of Austro-Hungarian ammunition on the Tri Kopce hill is consistent with the assumption that the Russian attack led from the north caught the Austro-Hungarian troops unprepared.
