Citation
Description This presentation offers a comparative analysis of how cultural diversity and immigrants are portrayed in the five editions of the textbook Ny i Norge (1977–2023). The study is based on the textbook, workbook, and teacher’s guide, and examines which nationalities are represented, the occupations of the characters, the stated reasons for their residence in Norway, and how their contact with Norwegians is described. The analysis follows a qualitative, discourse-analytic approach, focusing on changes in the representation of immigrants in the teaching material over a period of nearly fifty years. The aim is to highlight how Norwegian-as-a-second-language textbooks depict cultural diversity and how these portrayals develop in line with broader societal changes.
