Description This paper presents how artificial intelligence (AI) tools can support the individualization of teaching in lower secondary schools. It is based on the concepts of individualization, personalization, and differentiation and reflects the current debate on the benefits and risks of AI in schools. The research uses a quasi-experimental mixed design with parallel classes of 7th–9th graders in mathematics and computer science. Initial pilot results show that AI can increase student motivation, facilitate differentiation, and support learning at one's own pace, but at the same time it raises ethical questions and confirms the irreplaceable role of the teacher.
