| Description | Crimes against human dignity in the sexual sphere are characterized by sexual desire and the satisfaction of sexual urges, which makes them a phenomenon with a significant degree of harmfulness and seriousness requiring very specific procedures in prevention, punishment, and also in research. Criminology defines rape more restrictively, as there has been a rapid increase in acts that can be classified as sexual intercourse in criminal law theory and, in particular, in practice. The crime of rape is characterized by a high degree of latency, i.e., a significant number of undetected crimes, with the most critical estimates suggesting that up to nine-tenths of cases go unreported. The criminological aspects of the crime of rape are very important, which is why this article focuses from a criminological perspective on both victims and perpetrators, with an emphasis on women as perpetrators. |
