| Description | What makes good art interesting to us, what draws us to it magnetically, to quote Plato's Ion? The basic idea we are working with in this text is that good art is, so to speak, Parmenidean, that it carries an essential, lasting message about the world and our place in it. And because the message is supposed to be essential and lasting, it should be resistant to context, in other words, it should be ontologically strong, stronger than objective. Because even concrete entities are objective. The article cautiously attempts to argue that the message conveyed by good art is an intrinsic value. |
