Citation
Description This chapter provides a comprehensive overview of aristocratic music patronage in the Bohemian Crownlands from the seventeenth to the early nineteenth centuries. The author explores the diverse approaches of nobility towards music support, ranging from the establishment of private ensembles and opera houses to the patrons' personal musical activities. The text contextualizes these endeavors within Central European cultural history and traces the shifting role of the aristocracy from private patrons to initiators of public musical institutions. Significantly, this text represents the first relevant and up-to-date synthesis of aristocratic musical culture in Bohemia and Moravia of this period available in the English language.
