| Description | Dysphagia is a common and severe symptom of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). This study aimed to compare the assessment of swallowing difficulties by ALS patients and their caregivers using the EAT-10 and DYALS questionnaires, and to verify the relationship between these assessments and the objective results of FEES examinations. The analysis included 56 ALS patients (167 paired EAT-10 and 51 DYALS assessments). There was very good agreement between the responses of patients and caregivers (ICC > 0.85; ? = 0.63–0.92), high internal consistency (Cronbach's ? = 0.82–0.96) and a strong correlation with FEES results (R = 0.60–0.67; p < 0.001). Both questionnaires demonstrate high diagnostic validity and are suitable for screening for dysphagia in ALS patients, with caregivers also providing relevant information. |
