| Description | Virus3D database is a specialised online database of three-dimensional (3D) models of viral particles. It provides curated 3D representations of viruses derived from real experimental data obtained by cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM). The models are based on scientifically validated structural data and are subsequently processed into formats suitable for educational, demonstrational, and research-related use, including the creation of physical models by 3D printing. The individual models enable intuitive exploration of viral architecture and facilitate the understanding of relationships between viral structure and function. The database is designed to support biology education at secondary and tertiary levels, as well as to serve students, educators, and other users interested in virology and related life science disciplines. Physical 3D models generated from the database can be used as teaching aids in classroom-based education and in science communication and outreach activities. All models are provided “as is,” without warranty of any kind. Authors make no guarantees regarding accuracy, suitability, or safety for any specific purpose, including medical, educational, or commercial use. Users of this database assume full responsibility for the use and interpretation of all files. |
