Description Time is one of the first abstract notions a child is confronted with. Before he manages to orient himself in temporal magnitudes, the child must understand the periodic and evolutionary character of this phenomenon. Grasping the cyclical and linear nature of time then allows him to orient himself in the past and future which gradually detach from his continual present. Our article would like to analyze and compare two books that explain to preschool children the notion of time in an unusual way. Anne Herbaut and Daisy Mrázková have combined their literary and artistic skills to produce two little book marvels. The books A Magnificent Tuesday (Nádherné úterý, 1977) and Monday (Lundi, 2004) put children’s imagination to work for the benefit of the intellectual and artistic development of young readers.
