| Description | The paper examined in detail the issue of the revitalization of traditional folk dress within the Brno urban agglomeration, focusing on the identity-related attitudes of both the actors involved in the revival process and the wearers themselves. It summarized the reasons behind the disappearance of the original traditional folk costume and its replacement with “national” costumes (most notably the Kyjov costume). The paper also addressed the recent shift away from these national costumes, connected with efforts to reconstruct the original traditional folk dress, and discussed this development in relation to changing identity positions among the inhabitants of the Brno agglomeration. Attention was likewise paid to the symbolic dimension of folk costumes. |
