| Description | Microbially induced corrosion (MIC) leads to significant financial losses in industry. The main physiological groups of microorganisms involved in this process include sulfate-reducing bacteria, sulfur-oxidizing bacteria, iron-reducing and iron-oxidizing bacteria, methanogenic archaea, and acid-producing microorganisms. In general, it is difficult to determine the extent of microbial contribution to material corrosion, and there is a lack of standardized methods for its evaluation. This presentation introduces a project focused on optimizing a set of primers targeting the above-mentioned groups of microorganisms using the qPCR method. The aim of the project is to improve the reliability of quantifying these microbial groups and to provide a comprehensive protocol for screening microbially induced corrosion in technological water systems. The optimized protocol will thus provide industry with a tool for detecting high-risk microorganisms and preventing financial losses. |
