| Description | This study asks whether parental support responds to current partnership status as such, or to the transitions through which it changes. Using SHARE Wave 9 (N = 38,485 parent–child dyads, 16 Western European countries), it compares two groups of unpartnered adult children against partnered children as the reference category. Children who became unpartnered through divorce or widowhood receive more financial support than partnered children, whereas never-married children show no difference. Inclusion in parents' social networks follows the same structure with the direction reversed for divorced and widowed children. |
