| Description | The article explores trends in party-based Euroscepticism in Serbia in the context of the 2023 parliamentary elections. Based on analysis of the parties’ official electoral manifestos and long-term programmes, the authors claim that a ‘master’ narrative has developed connecting Serbian Eurosceptic parties with concerns over national sovereignty (including economic sovereignty and triangulated by the desire to intensify cooperation with Russia and China), territorial integrity (primarily related to the issue of Kosovo) and national identity vested in conservative cultural values. These long-term patterns touch on both soft and hard Eurosceptic narratives, and represent stable elements of Euroscepticism, which are more important because they shape public attitudes and political discourse than quotidian issues connected with the process of enlargement or enlargement fatigue. |
