| Description | Objective: To characterize palatal morphology and the cleft defect in infants with isolated cleft palate using digital cast analysis using CleftMeter software (https://github.com/ismmb-bio/CleftMeter/tree/v1.0), in order to address the current lack of detailed anatomical data and support early clinical management. Methods and Materials: A total of 72 maxillary casts from infants aged 8–18 months with isolated cleft palate treated at University Hospital Brno were scanned using a 3D scanner. In the CleftMeter software, Seckel’s points were identified and marked, and these landmarks were used for morphometric analysis of both the hard palate and the cleft defect, including fundamental dimensions, particularly distance measurements. Results: Morphometric measurements were successfully obtained from all 72 digital models. Palatal length ranged from 20.09 to 31.01 mm; mean value was 27.14±2.40 (I-TT ´ according Seckel ´s landmarks). Palatal width at the canine prominence ranged from 22.82 to 39.44 mm; mean value was 28.64±2.60 (CC ´), while palatal width at the tuber maxillae point ranged from 26.88 to 41.17 mm; mean value was 34.03±2.63 (TT ´). Length of the cleft defect (D-TT ´) ranged from 4.19 to 20.31 mm; mean value was 13.01±3.48. Conclusion: This preliminary morphometric analysis characterized hard palate, cleft defects in infants with isolated cleft palate using 3D scans and CleftMeter software. Digital cast analysis enabled precise assessment of anatomical variations and defect extent. Our methodology using defined landmark points helped fill the existing knowledge gap and provided a more objective and reproducible evaluation. |
