Description The authors present the review about the results of classic and newer studies of quoted types with alcoholism, in the present review [I], essentially from the point of view of genealogical, epidemiological and statistical elaboration. In this review the critical attitude towards methodology (the extent of studies groups etc.) is underlined to enable the reader to evaluate the quality of all these studies. In the concluding part of the review there is discussed the categorical content of terms genetic disposition to the dependence and the factors of the environment. In the following reviews [Genetics of alcoholism II. and Genetics of alcoholism III.] the authors will present the overview of main association studies, which were performed in the relationship to the alcoholism. In these reviews authors will pinpoint some serious methodological defects in many well known and often quoted studies.
