Description Cellular sources of hydrogen peroxide were detected cytochemically in culture system during IVF. The spermatozoa (especially frozen-thawed), damaged cumulus cells as well as fragmented oocytes and developmentally arrested embryos have been identified as hydrogen peroxide generators. Production of this metabolite is associated with cell damage and/or degeneration signalling the poor quality of gametes and accompanying somatic cells.
