Citation
Description The poster informs about the current status of the ELSPAC (European Longitudinal Study of Pregnancy and Childhood) study in the Czech Republic. The overall goal of the whole project is to find out whether certain biological, social, psychological or psychosocial factors are related to a child's survival and healthy development and whether the effects of these factors are uniform over all the participating countries or there are transcultural differences. The participating countries include England, Slovakia, The Isle of Man, Russia, Ukraine and the Czech Republic. In the Czech Republic there are two Brno-based institutions that collaborate on the project The Department of Social Medicine and Health Care Administration at Masaryk University and The Research Centre for Personality and Ethnicity Development. The information about children come from three sources : questionnaire surveys (since 1991), individual paediatric examinations (since 1999) and individual psychological examinations (since 1999). The poster brings the description of the individual psychological examinations that the participating children undergo at the age of 8 and 11. The examinations focus on a child's personality, intellectual abilities, memory capacity, graphomotor skills and creativity. The child's social relationships within the family and in the wider social context (school, peers) are also identified.
