Description We isolated transgenic variants of BM2 cell line inducibly expressing v-fos and c-fos genes. We found that both genes induce specific phenotypic changes. v-Fos protein slows down growth of BM2 cells, induces their adherency and reduces their phagocytic activity suggesting that v-Fos stimulates partial dedifferentiation of BM2 cells to less mature stage. In contrast to v-Fos, the c-Fos protein induces apoptosis of BM2 cells. These results document that v-Fos oncoprotein cooperates with v-myb oncogene and enhances its transforming capabilites. On contrary, cellular Fos acts against the v-myb and suppresses its anti-apoptotic effects.
