Description The research project "Role and seasonal changes of freshwater sponges (Porifera) in the reservoir influenced by the nuclear power plant operation solved" in the period 2001-2003 was aimed at explaining the role and life cycle of freshwater sponges (Porifera) in the Mohelno Reservoir, which is used as a source and recipient of cooling water from the Dukovany Nuclear Power Plant and is also influenced by the operation of the Dalešice Pumped Storage Hydroelectric Plant. The reference locality of the Dalešice Reservoir (Hartvíkovice) is influenced neither by cooling water nor by pumped storage operation. The growth and seasonal changes were studied on natural and artificial substrates placed in the depth 8-9 m on two check points in the Mohelno Reservoir at the dam and one check point in the Dalešice Reservoir - profile Hartvíkovice-middle (reference locality). Three Porifera (Spongillidae) species were found in the monitored localities - Spongilla lacustris, Ephydatia fluviatilis and Ephydatia mülleri. Moreover, physico-chemical, biological and bacteriological conditions of reservoirs were monitored and evaluated, and sponge associated organisms were identified.
