Citation
Description This article is by means of studying relevant materials trying to discuss values and customs of Roma people in the Czech republic as they can be met when performing social work and scientific research. It is trying to emphasize these values so that they could be used as springboard for mutual communication between majority and Roma. Roma are perceived as a people or community who respect their own traditions, values and unwritten law. The second aim of the essay is to point out the specific culture and lifestyle of the Roma, which they have developed as a reaction to the oppression and persecution by majority. The most supporting values of Roma community were during the investigation identified: family or more specified the broad family and children itself, then religiosity and accent on material welfare. The article is also attempting to be a kind of guide into the world of Roma values and sacred customs which have not been fully investigated yet.
