Description Immigrants often meet with resentment or even hostility from the dominant group in the new environment. The reason is in ethnocentrism and racism. A good knowledge of the language is not sufficient for finding a decent place in society. One has to adopt the patterns of behaviour and accept the values of the dominant group. Examples of personal advertisements submitted by immigrants to Great Britain, Australia and New Zealand demonstrate how difficult it is to forget the culture a person came from.
