Description The article is divided into three parts. The first part discusses the importance and functions of educational theories. With respect to research project Subjective theories in German speaking area it is outlined a parallel of objective and subjective theories. The term subjective theory is defined. The second part of the text deals with methodological problems of subjective theories diagnostics and presents the structuring concepts technique (SLT: Strukur-Lege-Technik). The third part illustrates on an example the use of this technique when investigating how parents concretise their subjective theories in relation to dilemma: führen vesrus wachsen lassen (T. Litt).
