Description The main goal of this paper is to analyze the regulation and deregulation development in the Czech Republic in the period from 1990 to 2005, capture the main development trends in this area and evolution of the volume of regulation as well as its quality. Authors accept the centred definition of regulation and regulation is defined as all government actions which modify the terms in some economic branches, regulatory provisions aiming at protection of health, environment, health and safety at work, consumers and actions influencing directly business activity (obligatory administrative work). Regulating volume and quality are important determinants of competitiveness. Well defined and stable regulatory frame and limited government role is the background of sustainable economic growth in the terms of internal and external balance.
