Description One of the most serious complication of the open eye injuries is the development of the intraocular inflammation – endophthalmitis. The aim of this study was the evaluation of surgical treatment of post-traumatic endophthalmitis after open eye injuries with intraocular foreign body. Endophthalmitis was found in 5 of 50 eyes with penetrating injury caused by a intraocular foreign body. All cases were surgical repaired – suture of the primary wound, traumatic cataract extraction and extraction of intraocular foreign body by pars plana vitrectomy with silicone oil tamponade. The final anatomical and functional conditions of the eye with post-traumatic endophthalmitis depends on the early diagnosis, type of the infectious agens and adequate surgical repair.
