Description Anecdotal reports suggest that CB1 cannabinoid receptor antagonists may also have antidepressant activity (Witkin et al., 2005). We investigated the behavioural effect of rimonabant in the mouse model of social defeat using naturally occurring intra-species social conflict situation. The results suggest an antidepressant-like effect of rimonabant in mice defeated by an aggressive conspecific partner and support a role of CB1 receptors in mood regulation and correlate with the results of Griebel et al. (2005) that suggest involvement of endocannabinoid system in modulation of the response to stressful stimuli.
