| Description | The brotherhood of litterati in Hranice was established in 1559. Its articles have not preserved, but they were probably similar to that of brotherhoods in Lipník (1558), Prostějov (ante 1563), Přerov (1563) and Kojetín (1564). But only the brotherhood in Hranice has survived in the re-catholisation process and religious reforms of Emperor Josef II.; the very last member of the society died in 1951. To the traditional obligation of so called "literáci" belongend not only singing in the church, but also compulsory participation on the funeral of deceased members. Especially this funeral participation conditioned the popularity and longevity of the brotherhood, which 1860 turned into a society with Joseph of Arimathea as its patron. This papers reflects also written materials of the brotherhood, especially manuscript chantbooks and the litterary reflection of J. A. H. Gallaš, who in his late works did some notes on literáci of Hranice and in 1828 entered himself the society. |
