Description In this paper, we try to present an evolutionary growth theory inspired mainly by the work of Adam Smith and Joseph Schumpeter. Most importantly, we deal with the relationship between the economic growth on one side, and the size of the markets and intensity of competition in the markets on the other side. Furthermore, we are trying to draw attention to the importance of linkages between firms and centres of markets and between firms and their suppliers and customers for creation and diffusion of innovations. Lastly, we use the previously created theory for analysis of the growth in productivity in the USA in 1990s.
