Description Trust is usually understood as an aspect of interpersonal relations anchored on an expectation that the second person will behave in an expected way. The concept of trust differs from competency and utilitarian contract between the partners (Yamagishi, Yamagishi, 1994). The study aimed to explore and explain various faces of trust in partnership with respect to different situational and psychological conditions. The sample consist of twelve (6 male and 6 female) university students. They were asked to replay six situations describing various conflicts between partners. The replays were recorded and analyzed. We used content analysis in order to distinguish the trust based on shared social norms from the trust based on mutual communication between partners. Regardless to mutual interdependence of the two forms, the communication based trust seems to fit the flexible conditions better than normative form. Our results support the hypothesis that the psychological concept of trust is related to concept of competence as well as an utilitarian aspect of interpersonal exchange.
