Description Sources and properties of mercury species are presented. Methods of isolation using classical leaching, solvent extraction and microwave extraction are discussed. Hyphenated techniques combining gas chromatography and liquid chromatography with atomic fluorescence detectors are described. Some recommendations for sample treatment and for quantification of individual mercury species are given.
