Description A discussion about changes of the attitudes towards a charity system in the 18th century. The paper responds to the postulates of a previous research, according to which the 18th century brought the rationalization, institutionalization and precise organization of the charity system, which should have led also to the suppression of the actual close connection between alms-giving and salvation. Based on the evidence from the Moravian royal town Brno, the study presents some significant changes in burghers behaviour during the second half of the century. Nevertheless, compared to other explored regions, here had come to a decline neither of the alms-giving nor of the traditional charity institutions. The author points out a continuing association of charity and salvation at least up to the end of the 18th century.
