Description The present-day efforts to professionalize the vocation of teachers have in common that they abandon the simplified concept of teachers as mediators of knowledge to pupils. The term professionalism is now understood more widely. It views the teacher as a professional who simplifies the pupils learning process and creates favorable conditions and inspirational opportunities for every pupils development. This concept implies increased demands on university training of future teachers which is supposed to provide them with knowledge and professional competence and thus enable active construction and acquisition of the vocation. Besides psychology for teachers and general teaching methodology, the foreign languages teaching methodology plays a crucial part in this process. What potentials and limitations the FLT methodology has is the focus of this paper.
