Description During compulsory school attendance children are endangered by a lack of physical activity, formation of unsuitable movement habits and increased static load. The situation is complicated by ergonomically unsuitable school furniture, muscular imbalance, obesity and one-sided overloading. An anonymous questionnaire survey of the situation in ten basic schools in Brno was carried. One-fifth of asked teachers teach pupils with spinal disorders and try to activate them and guide them to a good body posture. However, teachers increasingly lack knowledge about the early detection of ortopedic disorders, yet they are still interested in possibilities of advising and helping children and parents. Several departments of the Faculty of Education of Brno Masaryk University have created a manual which provides teachers with necessary information. Early prevention and remedial instructions improve health and life conditions and promote a higher well-being during learning and work. Also economic positives should be mentioned.
