Citation
Description The text deals with one of the most important phenomenon of current urbanization processes in Czech Republic - the suburbanization. The case study of chosen residential suburbs of the city of Brno illustrates the important changes connected with the post socialist situation. The structural changes on the political and economical level impact the everyday questions of lifestyles and housing dramatically. Suburbanization involves firstly spread of the city and migration of the urban inhabitants into the side areas, secondly the drift of these rural areas and its inhabitants to the urban way of life. In the first part the text is devoted to the theoretical question of the processes of urbanization and suburbanization, further describes the specifics of the socialistic planning of residential areas, its roots in the avant-garde urban tradition and the post socialist development of the suburbs. The second part offers the first conclusions of the case study made in the Brno suburbs.
