Citation
Description The concept of landscape character is not a current novelty, but rather a concept originating at the beginning of the modern era. It was formulated in connection with the protection of cultural monuments and later with nature protection starting in the second half of the 19th century. "Beautification societies" systematically dealt with landscape character protection starting in the in the first few decades of the 20th century, and landscape character also appears in the writings of important Czech figures in nature conservation during the First Republic. They openly admitted an aesthetic motivation to be an inherent part of contemporary homeland protection. This tradition of nature conservation was interrupted by the rise of the Communists to power in the mid 20th century.
