| Description | Picture books have received a considerable impulse in the contemporary Czech literature for children and youth in the form of appearance of new publishing houses that do not fear to publish (often with the help of grant projects of the Czech Ministry of Culture) rich picture titles; e.g. Meander, Baobab, Brio or Práh publishing houses. Picture books take several directions in the production of those publishing houses: one of them is progressively artistic and experimental and despite drawing on genre constants of child literature it goes beyond its horizon with a multi-layer message; another is following the traditional line of poeticizing images of the childrens world broadening it with current topics; and there is also a symbiosis with methods of artistic-instructional literature that enhance the knowledge potential of picture books. |
