Description This contribution deals with the development of private international law from the ancient times to the end of 18th century. It focuses only on the development in the continental Europe. Even though the relations with international element existed in the ancient times and early medieval age, the real basis of private international law is represented by statutists. This theory influenced private international law in continental Europe till the 19th century.
