| Description | Spatially related information plays a key role in decision making processes in emergency management; a significant part of this information is acquired from available maps. Spatial information contained in these maps must be presented in a way that it can be perceived from the map as quickly and correctly as possible. The presented paper deals with various approaches towards evaluation of maps. Most attention is paid to the method of evaluation of users performance during work with map. Within this approach, maps are not evaluated directly, but indirectly via analysis of various cognitive aspects of the process of acquiring information from them. Such findings allow to determine relevant problems of the evaluated map representation and to design ways of improvement. The paper also describes pilot studies of utilization of this method. |
